What can Ask AI do?
The organization assistant cannot run cross-site SQL or perform site-level write actions. When an
organization question needs one site, Ask AI names the site and uses that site’s existing report
services.
Ask a grounded question
1
Choose the right scope
Open Ask AI from a site when the question is about that site. Open it from
the organization dashboard when you want to compare sites or understand the
portfolio as a whole.
2
State the metric and window
Ask a complete question such as “Which channel brought the most new users in
the last 30 days?” or “Which site grew fastest this week compared with the
previous week?”
3
Follow the evidence
Review the date range and site named in the answer. Expand the tool summary
to inspect what Ask AI used, or follow its report link to verify the number
in the dashboard.
4
Approve any persistent change
If Ask AI proposes a supported write action, review the complete confirmation
card before approving it. Rejecting the action leaves your analytics
configuration unchanged.
How does Ask AI use the report I have open?
An empty assistant thread starts with questions chosen for the current report and appends the exact active date window. These starter questions are selected in your browser, so opening Ask AI does not make a model request or consume an AI credit. On supported reports, Explain this report starts a fresh conversation with the report name, inclusive date range, timezone, metric, bucket, and active filters. It uses one ordinary Ask AI turn, so it consumes one plan credit or uses your Anthropic key. The answer stays grounded in the matching report service; for example, a Performance explanation uses Core Web Vitals rather than substituting general traffic metrics. The explanation action appears on Overview, Acquisition, Pages, Performance, Globe, Goals, AI traffic, Retention, Sessions, Users, Events, Errors, Bots, and organization Overview. Reports with important local state that is not in the shared dashboard controls, including Funnels and Revenue, do not show the one-click action yet. You can still ask Ask AI about their data directly. How do I apply report filters in plain language?
On a supported top-level site report, open Add filter and use Describe your filter. A request such as “Visitors from Türkiye using Chrome” starts one ordinary Ask AI turn and replaces the open report’s filter list with validated TinyAnalytics filters. The resulting chips use the same URL-synced filter controls as manual filters, so they are visible, removable, reloadable, and shareable. Applying filters changes only your current view; it does not write server configuration and therefore needs no approval. If you navigate to another site or report before the result arrives, TinyAnalytics does not apply the stale result.Which changes can Ask AI make?
Site owners and admins can ask Ask AI to create, update, or delete goals, funnels, dashboards, annotations, analytics alerts, and shared saved segments. They can also create a shared behavioral cohort. Ask AI uses the same validation and permission checks as the dashboard and shows the exact definition before anything is saved. Every persistent action requires approval. Permanent deletes add a second step: type exact uppercaseDELETE before the approval button becomes available. If the target changed after Ask AI listed it,
the delete fails safely and asks you to refresh instead of acting on stale information.
Create with AI in the Segment and Cohort menus starts this same flow. AI-created audiences are
shared site resources; personal segments and cohorts remain a manual, personal workflow.
Questions that work well
- “How did sessions, users, and pageviews change this week?”
- “Which landing pages have high traffic and high bounce rate?”
- “Compare the sites in this organization and explain the biggest change.”
- “Show revenue by channel, then link me to the report.”
- “Create a shared cohort of users who viewed pricing but did not sign up in 30 days.”
- “Create an alert when signup conversions fall below 20 per day.”
How are answers kept within my access?
Ask AI uses your existing TinyAnalytics permissions:- You must be a member of the site or organization. A public-dashboard viewer cannot use the assistant.
- A team-restricted member can query only the sites that team grants them.
- Owners and admins can enable or disable AI features under Settings → Organization.
- Write tools appear only to roles that can manage the target, and every persistent change requires an explicit approval step.
How do AI credits and my Anthropic key work?
When plan metering is active, the composer shows the organization’s monthly AI-credit usage. A fresh user turn consumes one credit. Approving or denying a genuine pending action, or regenerating the most recent stored answer, does not consume a second credit. You can save your own Anthropic API key under Settings → Account. Ask AI and natural-language SQL generation then use your Anthropic account and do not consume the organization’s TinyAnalytics AI credits. The saved key is never shown again after you add it. A generous monthly safety ceiling applies to platform-provided AI usage per organization, and natural-language SQL generation is throttled per user. These exist to stop runaway spend and should never affect normal use; if you do hit one, adding your own Anthropic key lifts it immediately, since your usage then bills to your own Anthropic account. See Billing & plans for the current allowances.Verify an answer
Ask for a metric over a named date range, then open the report link in the
answer. The site, date range, filters, and displayed number should match the
dashboard. For a persistent write, confirm that nothing changes until you
approve the action card.
